ABOUT LEAKNET
![]() The LEAKNET product line has its origins in the Pt. Arguello offshore platform installation in Santa Barbara, California. EFA was contracted to develop an ultra-high performance leak detection system for this application, which included both wet sour crude and wet sour gas. The resulting statistically based, event-detection methodology, Pressure Point Analysis™ (PPA™) was patented and today forms the foundation of LEAKNET. This was the first wet oil leak detection system approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service. In addition to the Pt. Arguello project, LEAKNET's PPA module was approved by the Western Region Minerals Management Service for two unique offshore pipeline systems when no other contemporary leak detection was successful. The Department of Energy's Strategic Petroleum Reserve specified EFA's PPA system as their standard leak detection system in January 1993. As of 2001 the network of SPR lines in Texas and Louisiana are protected by LEAKNET. The SPR was awarded the 2001 OSPRA Award for environmental excellence in spill preparedness, prevention and response. State of Alaska's listing of Best Available Technology leak detection systems show EFA's LEAKNET listed twice - once for each of its independent leak detection modules, PPA and MassPack. LEAKNET is the only leak detection system to be purchased and installed on North Slope pipelines since 1995. EPA Third Party Certification testing was completed in 1995. EFA's PPA module is listed in the State of California's LG-113 as an approved leak detection methodology for large volume pipelines. LEAKNET is now the only pipeline leak detection method tested and certified to detect 2.2 gallon-per-hour leaks in large diameter static pipelines containing as much as 116,000 gallons - every time without false alarms. EFA was awarded U.S. Patent No. 4,498,809 on a specialized control technique for open channel flow applications, U.S. Patent No. 4,796,466 on our Pressure Point Analysis™ (PPA™) leak detection system, U.S. Patent No. 5,272,646 for locating leaks on a pipeline and U.S. Patent No. 5,315,529 for tank leak detection. Today EFA's sole focus is pipeline leak detection and location. The LEAKNET family of products features two completely independent and complementary methods of leak detection in a single off-the-self product. The patented Pressure Point Analysis™ (PPA™) provides continuous or intermittent leak detection on lines that are flowing or blocked-in and static. Because it is an event-based methodology, which evaluates small changes in energy and momentum, it is suitable for use on gas, liquid, and multi-phase product pipelines. The complementary and independent dynamic line pack compensated MassPack module, which is always included in the LEAKNET package, is a meter-based methodology. Woven together through intelligent alarm processing they provide a tight network of protection for your pipeline, giving you the best possible leak detection for your operating conditions. |
